MDS Professional Excellence Award – 2007 was conferred upon Professor M. Aslam, Director, NCIDE, IGNOU by the Hon’ble Union Minister, for Panchayati Raj, Govt. of India Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar. Dr S.Y. Quarishi, Election Commissioner of India was the Guest of Honour at the function.
The award was given for distinguished contribution of Prof Aslam in the field of education and training in Panchayati Raj and rural development. The function was attended by a large number of cross section of the society including elected panchayat members from Mewat.
In his address the Hon’ble Minister, apart from recognizing significant contribution made by Professor Aslam in the field of training for Panchayati Raj, emphasized the need for paying special attention to backward regions like Mewat. He recalled his experiences that he had during his visit to the Mewat area and discussions he held with late Prime Minister, Shri Rajiv Gandhi on this matter. He strongly felt that the Mewat region has unfortunately not received the desired attention.
The Hon’ble minister appreciated the work of‘ MDS and hoped that new initiatives taken up by his Ministry and the dedicated NGOs like MDS will ensure that special attention to be paid to develop areas like Mewat so that they also join mainstream of development. He also released a book published by MDS and written by Shri M.A. Qureshi on ‘Indian Science and Technology Development Policies’.
Dr Quarishi, Election Commissioner of India in his address narrated his personal experiences as District Magistrate in the region and appreciated the efforts of Mewat Development Society and its patron Dr Subhan Khan in undertaking a number of development initiatives. He recalled his association with the MDS and its patron and said that they participated in almost all the development policies and programmes launched in Mewat. He also released MDS brochure and another book published by MDS in Urdu on ‘Yoga and Health’.
In the opening the Patron, MDS, Dr Subhan Khan presented his welcome address and in the closing Sh M.A. Qureshi, President, MDS presented a vote of thanks
